Stamped Concrete: Stone & Brick Looks for Less
Get the look of natural stone, brick, slate, or wood at a fraction of the cost.
Stamped concrete reproduces the look of expensive stone, brick, or wood at a fraction of the installed cost — and unlike pavers, it has no joints where grass grows, ants nest, or moisture intrudes. It's the highest-design hardscape we install, suitable for driveways, patios, walkways, pool decks, and even commercial entry plazas.
Texas Strong Concrete stamps in dozens of patterns from European fan to ashlar slate to wood-plank to running-bond brick. We color the concrete integrally (mixed throughout the slab, so the color doesn't wear off the top) and seal with UV-rated sealers built for Gulf Coast sun. Done right, stamped concrete holds its color and crisp pattern definition for 5-7 years before needing a re-seal — and the slab itself lasts 25+ years.

Why Texas Strong Concrete for Stamped & Decorative Concrete
Stamped concrete is the highest-design hardscape we install, and it's the service that draws the most homeowners who care about how their property looks. Done properly, stamped concrete is indistinguishable from natural stone or brick at typical viewing distances, holds its appearance for decades, and costs roughly half what a comparable paver or natural-stone installation would run over a 20-year period.
The process: We pour the concrete normally, hand-finish to a smooth surface, and color it two ways. Integral color goes into the concrete mix at the batch plant — pigments mixed throughout the slab, so the color is permanent and doesn't wear off the top. Surface color (a powdered release agent broadcast on the wet surface) adds depth and contrast that gives stamped concrete its natural variegation. Right after finishing, while the concrete is still workable, we press patterned rubber mats into the surface to imprint the texture and pattern. After cure, we wash off the excess release powder, apply additional accent colors if specified, and seal with a UV-rated sealer.
Pattern selection matters a lot. We stock and use 30+ patterns: ashlar slate (clean modern stone), European fan (cobbled), random stone (natural flagstone), running bond brick (traditional), wood plank (rustic), travertine, slate, and several oversized patterns for driveways. The right pattern depends on your house style (Mediterranean homes work with travertine; modern homes work with large-format slate; traditional homes work with European fan or brick), the slab geometry (some patterns photograph better at certain scales), and your color palette.
Color is where stamped concrete either looks spectacular or looks like a contractor's mistake. We use a minimum of two colors on every stamped pour — a base integral color and an accent surface color — and recommend three for any patio or driveway over 200 square feet. The base color should complement your house siding or trim. The accent color should be 1-2 shades darker for natural depth. We show you physical samples and small mock-ups before committing to the final color combination.
Maintenance keeps stamped concrete looking new. We seal every patio, driveway, and pool deck after the full 28-day cure with a UV-rated penetrating sealer (typically a solvent-based acrylic for our Gulf Coast climate). The sealer absorbs into the concrete, repels water and stains, and gives a low-sheen appearance that highlights the color and pattern. Re-sealing every 3-5 years restores the appearance and protects against UV breakdown. We'll send you a maintenance schedule with every install and remind you when re-seal time comes. Common Questions About Stamped & Decorative Concrete
What's the most popular stamped concrete pattern in Texas?+
Ashlar slate and European fan are the two most-requested in our area. Ashlar slate gives a clean, modern stone look; European fan reproduces the cobbled walkways of European squares. For driveways, large-format slate and travertine patterns are popular.
How much does stamped concrete cost compared to plain concrete?+
Stamped concrete runs $12-20 per square foot installed in our area, depending on pattern complexity, number of colors, and slab geometry. Plain broom-finish concrete runs $8-12 per square foot. The premium for stamped is typically $4-8 per square foot.
Will the color fade in Texas sun?+
Integral color (mixed into the wet concrete) does not fade — it's permanent throughout the slab. Top-broadcast color (a release powder applied to the surface) adds depth and contrast and may lighten 10-15% in the first year as it weathers. We use both for the best look. Sealing every 3-5 years preserves the color.
How do I clean stamped concrete?+
Annual rinse with a garden hose. Stains: oxygen bleach (NOT chlorine) and a stiff brush. Avoid power washing — high-pressure water can damage the sealer. Re-seal every 3-5 years for best appearance.
Can stamped concrete be repaired if it cracks?+
Hairline cracks at control joints are normal. Wider cracks can be color-matched and filled with concrete repair compound, then re-sealed. Severe sub-base failure requires partial replacement, which we can do without redoing the whole slab.
How long does stamped concrete take to install?+
Same as plain concrete plus 1-2 days for the stamping work. A 400-square-foot stamped patio takes 4-5 days end-to-end: 1 day prep, 1 day pour and stamp, 2-3 days cure before any traffic. Sealing happens 14-28 days later after full cure.
