Cracks, spalling, heaving, sinking — repaired or resurfaced cheaper than full replacement.

Not every cracked driveway or sunken patio needs full replacement. In many cases, resurfacing or repair is a third of the cost and restores the surface for another 10-15 years. We'll tell you honestly which approach is right — sometimes that means walking away from a job because the underlying problem (severe sub-base failure, expansive soil heave) means repair would just be a band-aid.

Common repair scopes: polymer-modified overlay resurfacing (fresh concrete bonded to the existing slab), epoxy injection of structural cracks, polyurethane foam slab-lifting for settled sections, joint resealing on aging stamped or stained slabs, and partial replacement where one section has failed but the rest is structurally sound.

What You Can Expect

Honest Diagnosis

We tell you when repair is enough — and when it isn't.

Polymer Overlay

Fresh surface bonded to your existing slab, cheaper than replace.

Crack Injection

Epoxy injection for structural cracks, polyurethane for surface.

Slab Lifting Available

Sunken slabs can sometimes be lifted with polyurethane foam.

Deep Dive

Why Texas Strong Concrete for Concrete Repair & Resurfacing

The most expensive concrete decision a homeowner makes is full replacement when repair would have worked. We see this constantly — a driveway with surface scaling that the homeowner has been told needs tearing out, when in reality a polymer overlay would restore it for 40% of the replacement cost and last another 15 years. Our first answer is always: what does the slab actually need? Then we quote based on that, not based on what gets us the biggest invoice.

The repair toolbox covers most common failures. Surface scaling and spalling (where the top 1/8 inch of concrete is flaking off, often from de-icing salts in non-Texas markets or from a poorly finished original pour here) gets resurfaced with a polymer-modified overlay — essentially a fresh skim coat of concrete bonded to the existing slab. The overlay comes in colors and can be stamped or troweled for various finishes. After cure and sealing, the slab looks new and lasts 10-15 years before any further work.

Structural cracks — the kind you can fit a coin into, or that extend through the slab edge to edge — get treated with epoxy injection. We seal the crack on top, drill small ports along the length, then inject a low-viscosity structural epoxy that flows through the crack to the underside. The epoxy cures harder than the concrete itself and structurally bonds the two halves of the slab. A properly injected crack is stronger than the surrounding concrete and won't reopen. This is the right repair for cracks caused by load or shrinkage; it's not the right repair for cracks caused by ongoing soil movement (those need to be addressed at the soil level first).

Settled or sunken slabs get foam-lifted. We drill 5/8-inch holes through the slab in a grid pattern, then inject a two-component polyurethane foam underneath. The foam expands within 15-30 seconds, filling voids and lifting the slab. We monitor lift with laser levels and stop when the slab returns to grade. Foam lifting is dramatically less invasive than tearing out and re-pouring — typically a half-day job for a residential driveway section. It works for sidewalks, driveways, pool decks, garage slabs, and even some interior slabs. Where it doesn't work: slabs that have broken into pieces (the pieces will lift independently and the slab won't be structurally sound), or where the sub-base has fully washed out (you can lift, but there's nothing to support the slab long-term).

We give an honest diagnosis on every repair visit. If we tell you 'this needs full replacement,' it's because repair won't hold — not because we want a bigger job. Conversely, if the slab is sound and just needs a $400 crack injection, that's what you'll get quoted. We've walked away from jobs where the homeowner wanted us to overlay a slab that was actively heaving from soil movement; doing the overlay would have just hidden the problem for 6 months before it cracked through. Call (833) TSC-CONC for a repair assessment and we'll tell you the truth about what your slab needs.

When This Helps

When Concrete Repair & Resurfacing Is the Right Choice

Common situations where homeowners across Texas reach out to us.

Your driveway has surface scaling or spalling

Spalling (surface flaking) is fixable with a polymer overlay if the slab below is sound. We diagnose during the visit.

A sidewalk panel has sunk and creates a trip hazard

Sunken sections can often be foam-lifted back to grade for a fraction of replacement cost.

Your stamped concrete pattern is fading

Worn stamped concrete can be re-colored and re-sealed without replacement. We restore the original look.

Your patio has a structural crack you can fit a coin into

Wider cracks are usually structural and need epoxy injection plus surface patching. We assess and treat.

Your garage slab has multiple cracks and surface dust

Garage slab restoration: crack repair + surface grinding + epoxy coating = looks new at a fraction of pour-and-coat new.

FAQ

Common Questions About Concrete Repair & Resurfacing

How do I know if my concrete is repairable or needs replacement?+

Repairable: surface-only damage (spalling, hairline cracks, faded color), settled sections where the sub-base is still sound, joint failures. Replacement: structural cracks that extend through the slab, severe sub-base failure (settling more than 1 inch or heaving more than 1/2 inch), large-area damage covering more than 30% of the slab.

What is concrete resurfacing?+

Resurfacing applies a polymer-modified concrete overlay (typically 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick) over an existing sound slab. The new surface bonds chemically to the old, restores appearance, and adds another 10-15 years of life. Cost runs 40-60% of full replacement.

Can sunken concrete really be lifted?+

Yes. Polyurethane foam injection (sometimes called 'mudjacking' or 'concrete leveling') drills 5/8-inch holes through the slab, injects expanding foam underneath, and lifts the slab back to grade. Works for settled sidewalks, driveways, pool decks, and garage slabs. Doesn't work if the slab is broken or the sub-base has eroded away entirely.

How long do repairs last?+

Polymer overlay: 10-15 years before any further work. Epoxy crack injection: lifetime of the slab (the crack is structurally restored). Foam slab lifting: 10-20 years if the cause of settlement is addressed (drainage corrected, sub-base stabilized).

What does concrete repair cost?+

Crack repair: $5-15 per linear foot. Polymer overlay: $4-8 per square foot. Foam slab lifting: $7-15 per square foot of lifted area. Joint resealing: $2-4 per linear foot. Compare to full replacement at $8-12+ per square foot.

Can you match the color of my existing stamped concrete?+

Close match yes, exact match no. Aged concrete has weathered and the original colors have shifted. We can come within 5-10% of the current appearance, which from any normal viewing distance reads as the same finish. We show you the color match before committing.
