Use #4 rebar grid or welded wire mesh on every pour, properly chaired so it sits in the middle of the slab — not thrown chunks. Cut control joints within 24 hours at standard spacing so the inevitable shrinkage cracking happens where we want it, not randomly across the slab. Seal with UV-rated penetrating sealers built for Texas sun and Gulf humidity.
Most of these steps cost an extra few hundred dollars per project. They are also the difference between a slab that lasts 10 years and one that lasts 30. We do them on every pour, no exceptions.
